Las Fotos Project is a community-based organization whose mission is to inspire teenage girls through photography, mentorship, and self-expression. The programs at Las Fotos Project teach girls to use cameras in order to explore their identity, learn about new cultures, build leadership and advocacy skills, and strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing. Las Fotos Project acts as a platform that elevates the voices of girls by creating a space for their ideas to be shared with their peers and the world.
Downtown Labs School facilitates a weekly Style Zine class for Las Fotos Project students. The curriculum for this program includes visual presentations, photographic and written assignments, discussion, and critiques.
This semester, Downtown Labs has partnered with the clothing company LPA and their Creative Direct Pia Arrobio to give students a Style Zine challenge. Student photographers will work with a zine maker, photographer, creative director, and stylist to create the Style Zine – concept to completion. Guest teachers include Dan Monick. Students will be both the photographers and models for this project. The final zine will be presented to LPA for a professional critique.
Dates: February – April, 2018
Admission: 15 students
