Labs Youth Career Program is designed for high school teens in Red Hook community, who wish to gain hands-on accelerated skills training in the creative industry and learn about the workings of the commercial photography industry. During this program, selected students from our educational partners (South Brooklyn Community High School and Summit Academy Charter School) attend workshops, field trips and lectures at Red Hook Labs School, where they gain a 360 degree overview of the different jobs and roles within the industry and get the opportunity to experiment and immerse in these different roles. From a producer to studio assistant, a creative director to makeup artist, this program introduces students to the ecosystem of fashion and photography industry.
The curriculum for this program consists of classes in studio assistance, production and pre-production, digi-tech, equipment, working in a team, handling clients, set etiquette, photo assistance, etc. Each class is a hands-on workshop that introduces the students to the fundamental work skills required in the industry. The ultimate goal of this program is to equip students with the basic skills for a real job in photo and creative industry. The class is taught once a week and takes place at Red Hook Labs studio or location.
The Youth Career Program provides teens with fundamental work skills and an opportunity for job placement.
