Labs School offers a multi-disciplinary curriculum of workshops, critiques, conversations and residency programs led by the most renowned image makers and industry leaders. Open to anyone seeking to enhance their career in photography, film, or fashion, Labs School provides the insight and access needed to succeed. Meet the artists and innovators who inspire a new generation, learn from the Labs master teachers, and connect with the global Labs community.
ALL YEAR ROUND:
Labs School began in January 2019 and offers workshops by the most renowned artists in their fields: Master critiques with influential leaders in photography, video, beauty and styling; studio lighting with the first assistants and lighting designers of the most famous fashion photographers; a four-week “Photography on Assignment with Eve Lyons”, New York Times picture editor; photographic book making workshop with prominent Guggenheim recipient, Christian Paterson; a three week “Make a Film with Ziggy Le Vin” workshop; “Critique Intensive with Jimmy Moffat and Stephen Frailey”. Mentors include: Taryn Simon, Jamie Hawksworth, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Laurie Simmons, Adam Fuss, Ryan McGinley, Cass Bird, Jack Webb, Alastair McKimm, Penelope Umbrico, Jimmy Paul, Lucas Blalock, James Kaliardos, Christian Patterson, Ziggy Le Vin, Roe Ethridge and Lyle Ashton Harris. A high school program exploring portraiture and identity through photography and video will occur in July, as well as a one week residency surveying the New York photography community in June. A Fashion Week Residency will occur in September 2019 and an open call for a short-film festival will be announced in Fall 2019.
A monthly series of portfolio reviews as well as conversations with artists commenced in January with emerging photographers Molly Matalon and Caroline Tompkins, and will continue with Joshua Citarella and Lucas Blalock, in April and May.
