This workshop will focus on building the necessary skills for both sides of the editorial assign the collaboration between photo editor and photographer, and explain how the roles inform one another. With weekly assignments, photographers will be guided on the execution of their editors’ ideas while still maintaining their sensibility and integrity. Participants will have a better understanding of the complexities of the editorial industry, and the confidence to make their best possible work.

BIO: Jacqueline Bates is the Photography Director of The California Sunday Magazine and Pop-Up Magazine. California Sunday won the National Magazine Award for Photography in 2016 and 2017. Previously, she was the senior photo editor of W Magazine and worked in the photo departments of ELLE, Interview and Wired. Bates holds an MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts and her work has been exhibited internationally.
